Esbat

A monthly ritual gathering of a Wiccan coven, held at the full moon (in some lineages, also at the new or dark moon). The esbat is distinct from the eight seasonal sabbats: where sabbats observe the solar year, esbats observe the lunar cycle. Practical magical work — healings, blessings, initiations, divinations — is more commonly conducted at esbats than at sabbats, which tend toward larger seasonal celebration. The term is shared across Gardnerian, Alexandrian, and eclectic Wiccan traditions.
