Tract · The Satanic Panic
The relationship to contemporary Satanic organisations
The Lanning Report drew an explicit distinction in 1992 between the alleged satanic-cult conspiracy that the panic claimed to expose and the contemporary religious organisations operating under Satanic imagery. None of the latter had documented connections to the panic-era criminal cases. The Church of Satan, the Temple of Set, the various Dianic and traditional witchcraft currents, the Thelemic order: each is the subject of its own tradition entry on this site, with its published doctrines, founders, and history. None of them is what the panic claimed Satanism was. The conflation of contemporary religious Satanism with the alleged abuse network is itself one of the documented errors of the panic.
